Building the Side Table


Using a template to cut identical parts.
I cut the original with a knife in thin basswood, then use this setup to create a template in a harder wood, I fit the unshaped piece into the template and slide it along the small knob letting the end mill do the cutting.
Making the mortise is an essential part of the construction, they make the miniature strong and authentic. I made a sliding x-table for my dremel to facilitate this. My fingers have to be awfully close the the sharp end mill.



Here are most of the components I milled for the main carcass. If you enlarge the image you can see the mortises, bridle joints, grooves, and shaped details.







I love when the pieces start going together, it is exactly the same feeling I got when all those years ago I did full size furniture.
